During the month of October, we will be bringing awareness to the Manulife Insurance - Vitality campaign, follow us on our journey to “Being Active and Staying Active” and bringing awareness to the benefits of an active lifestyle…
Let’s be honest, being active isn’t always easy. We know it’s good for us and we know we should do it, but sometimes it’s just easier to let life get in the way and catch up on our favourite TV shows, do a load of laundry or go out for dinner with friends. However, laying on the couch, staying inside and eating out are not helping burn off calories, they’re adding to your calorie intake.
The moment you start to get active the benefits of exercise kick in says Fitness Magazine. "We see changes in the body within seconds, says FITNESS advisory board member Michele Olson, PhD. Your heart rate increases, and blood is delivered to your muscles. You start burning calories for fuel. And you get an almost immediate mood boost. As little as 30 minutes of cardio three to five days a week will add six years to your life.”
Throughout the month of October, our team (Domenic, Avellina and Rob) will be documenting our commitment to not just getting active, rather Being Active and Staying Active.
We thought of a number of ways to be active and stay active, however; here are three ways to get active and stay active:
1) Join a league – Co-ed Soccer (among other sports) is a great way to get out, meet new people. It’s all about “Getting Active & Staying Active”. There are literally leagues everywhere in the GTA for all different ages and skill levels.
2) Watch the game – Most gyms have monitors on their elliptical and treadmill equipment, so the next time the game is on; instead of watching the next Jays (Leafs/Raptors) game on the couch…watch it on the tread-climber! #wethenorth
3) Ditch the Cart – The next time you go to get 18 holes in…walk the course…Being active is about, great exercise and great fun!
Remember, it’s all about, “Being Active & Staying Active”
